Description/ History

Kalsubai is a mountain in the Western Ghats, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Its summit situated at an elevation of 1646 metres (5400 feet) is the highest point in Maharashtra

The mountain range lies within the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary.

The truncated summit provides a modest area of flat land which holds a sacred temple of a local deity.

Local legend says that kalsubai was a house maid residing in a nearby Indorey village.

She is believed to have disappeared near the mountain while trying to escape her employer's relentless torment.

This lends the mountain its current name as well as a reason for this temple to be built in her fond memory.

A traditional prayer service is held every Tuesday and Thursday by a priest.

During the festival of Navratri a fair comes to be organized each year with many stalls being set up near the summit to provide pooja materials to the devotees.

On these special occasions local villagers participate in this fair which helps to supplement their livelihood and as well as provides them an opportunity to revere the mountain.

Drinking Water: there is a well on the top , but due to the loose soil water is muddy, better to carry sufficient water supply from base village, also no water available on trekking route

Best Season to Visit: September to december, as in rainy season you may not be able to see best view due to high presence of fog

How to reach

Routes

From Bari Village

This is the most famous route for Kalsubai trek, ladder route most trekkers prefer this route & its safe

From Indore Village

This is a lengthy route, Indore village comes before bari village while leaving to kalsubai from  Kasara, & its inside from main road

One can ascend from Bari Village & descend to indore.

also while ascending if one wants to try the different route & can come banck to bari village but it will be longer one but shorter than Indore village

While descending through Indore village you will come across stone steps & metal rope after finishing that patch turn to ur right & follow the Orange flag you will reach bari village
